analysis of my music magazine genre. Q Magazine Issue.294.

Having choosing my magazine genre ( Indie/Rock)
I am using Q as my magazine model and anaylsing how is it representing anybody associated from the genre i have chosen.
while analysing this magazine i thought it has been fitting my criteria of my music magazine that i am going to create. the main imagae of the magazine is 'Arcade Fire' they are a new indie band which is hopefully going to be a lot more popular in 2011, this linkes with my magazine i want to design because i think its good introducing new bands to the audience, then showing how good they are. the image of the band (boy & girl on front) show they are into style and have a modern style to them, as militry boots are in fashion at the moment, also links good with my magazine because i would like a more modern style to it, and the people on the cover to the modern style in todays indie society. whats good with this band is they are not wearing similar things, as people in band usually where the same thing to show there part of a group, however with this group it shows how 'different' the band lookit looks as if they dont go together as aband and this links with my magazine i will be creating as i want it to have a different twist, however still have the bands which have a simular style which represents them. the main image also shows a seriousness from the guy in the band and from the girls shows a more fun side, the band has two sides to them showing from the front cover, this will draw the audience in because it shows a mix of personatily.
the masthead 'Q' is very eye catching because the big font make the 'Q' to stick out even more also the red background enhances to be even more stricking because the white back ground from the magazine this mast head has become fimiluar with the audience and they know if they see this mast head anywhere they will know whats its for. this is what i would like to bring on to my audience of my magazine, to keep them with something fimiliar which they will recognise if seen, the boldness of the masthead makes its stick into the audience's head because it isn't anything confusing.
the differet range of techniques used in the cover lines, such as "20 huge acts return" uses a different size of font affectively as the "20" is bigger to make it stand out more then the other text, this cover line is also in bloack capitals which also makes it stick out more. the '!' in the coverline enthisises effectly that the bands are returning, this coverline links good with the magazine i want to great because in the indie/rock society bands are returning all the time such as Kings Of Leon. the colour for this coverline is also affective because it make the cover line stick out more also where the background is white this colour of the coverline is very eye catching from the audience. the cover line "liam gallagher's" is effective for the reader because the bigger font on "Liam" enthisis's his name and when people see this it becomes interestiung from the audience because liam gallagher is very popular in the indie audience, this is very good for a simular magazine i want to design as i need somebody popular in my magazine as it will be more interesting for the buying audience. the black writing for the coverline is also really affective because of the white back ground it makes it also stick out to the audience, with my coverlines i would also like to make all my cover lines stick out to the reader as it makes the magazine much more affective. the main coverline "50 albums of the year" is the main eye catching piece of the cover lines, the different fonts and block capitals also makes the cover line stick out even more, and the black font is also really affective becuase of the white background, the red font of the main cover line "of the" breaks down the black from the main cover line, as if it was al black it wouldnt look as affective as it does with the two colours. coverlines are very important in magazine front covers as they need to stick out to the audience and be very eyecatching, Q magazine covers line are very affective and i would like to create my magazine like this.
the layout of this magazine is very affective. the main image is the centre of the front cover, i would find that main image being in the centre isn't very affective however the layout of the magazine makes the image in the middle very interesting also the white backgorund of the magaziwe makes everything twice as affective, i think the white background is very eyecatching, and isn't doesnt look plain, however the used of different sizes of font make the magazine look not boring.

Secondary Research for my Music Magazine.

The genre of my music magazine i am going to do is 'Indie Rock'. I am going to use the magazine NME as my model cover, as i find this magazine interesting to read and very eye catching. The 'new musical express' (also known as 'NME') is a very popular music magazine in the United Kingdom, this magazine is published every week since March 1952. It was the first british paper to include a singles chart, in the 14 November 1952 edition. In the 1970's  it became the best-selling British music magazine. During the period 1972 to 1976 it was particularly associated with gonzo journalism, then became closely associated with punk rock through the writing of Tony Parsons and Julie Burchill. This weekly magazine costs £2.20 each week, this magazine has a amazing readership of 411,000 every week. it had believed 73% of males read this magazine and 27% female, however this magazine intended audience is men 17-30, so there is a lot of the audience which s unintended.
NME are a extending company, as they have their online website, music program and a radio station. Krissi Murison was named the magazine's eleventh editor on 29 July 2009. She took over as the magazine's first female editor in September 2009. NME has a number of pages at 62, however these pages change a lot but never usually less then that, can always be more.

These's magazine front covers above are very eye catching, they all have different colours and layouts but are the same magazine. this is the type of magazine i would like to produce as my media project, as i think its very successful and a magazine i am interested in on a weekly base's.
why is the magazine called NME(the new musical express)? this magazine is called NME because it is very modern style to its name and it also shows all the new music in this certain genre.

My analysis of my college magazine.

In my media lesson, my aim was to create a successful college magazine front cover and contents page.  for my front cover i decided to choose a picture that will draw people in, and show the understanding of college life, my picture being used is a girl standing there with her college books. even though college life has a main advantage of meeting new people and becoming more of an adult, i take that into consideration, but overall people are here to get their education and make a success of themselves, this was the point i was getting across. The contents also shows the same idea, however has a lot more fun stuff, and students need a break from heavy studying 24/7.

while creating my magazine front cover and contents, i found it quite hard to get used to the software, in design i picked up quite easy, however i found photoshop confusing, i had to keep using photo shop as it would have been impossible to create a magazine front cover without photoshop. As i kept using the software, i was understanding it more, and picking up how to use the effects.

Looking at my magazine front cover, i think i used a wide range of colours and fonts, however as a disadvantage i think some of the colours clashed, and i should of thought through the colours more. the different range of fonts i thought worked well, as it can get a bit boring when its all the same font. i found the back ground colour i used for my front cover and content, is dark, as a positive note maybe i could next time maybe change to a more effective background.

On the contents page, the font is used isn't very good, as you can't understand what is written, also my page looks very plain and needs to add more things onto the page, as it doesn't look like it will attract students into reading the magazine.

my college magazine idea :)
